Day 8 — Promptness to do good
Meditation
The spirit of procrastination is the devil's most subtle trap: he does not invite us to say "no", but "tomorrow". Tomorrow becomes never. Saint Expeditus conquered this spirit with his cry "Today!": the grace offered today must be answered today. Responding promptly to divine inspiration is the saints' secret.
Prayer of the Day
O glorious martyr Saint Expeditus, who triumphed over the spirit of procrastination, help me not to put off important decisions and to answer without delay the grace of God. May I too say like you: "Today, not tomorrow", and so fulfill my Christian duties promptly. Amen.
(Here make the particular petition.)
Final Prayer (for all days)
O Jesus Christ, protect us today and always, but especially today. O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you. Saint Expeditus, glorious martyr and patron of just and urgent causes, pray for us.
(Three Our Fathers, three Hail Marys, and three Glorias, in honor of the Most Holy Trinity.)
