Day 3 — Protector of the Church

Reading

Pope Leo XIII, after a vision in which he heard the devil challenge the Church, composed the prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel and instituted its recitation after Mass. The Church recognizes Saint Michael as the protector of her earthly pilgrimage, guardian of the Pope, and defender of the faith against the attacks of the evil one.

Prayer of the Day

Saint Michael the Archangel, protector of Holy Church, watch over the Holy Father, the bishops, and all the faithful. Defend us from all that threatens the unity and holiness of the People of God. Amen.

Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel (for all days)

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the malice and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do you, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.
