Day 5 — Detachment

Meditation

Saint Expeditus left behind military honor, rank, and the security of Rome in order to gain Christ. Only detachment from temporal things opens the heart to eternal ones. Whoever clings to earthly goods closes himself to heaven; whoever opens his hands is free to embrace God's will.

Prayer of the Day

O glorious martyr Saint Expeditus, by the abundant graces you received from heaven to keep all your virtues, grant me also to detach myself from whatever hinders my way to heaven. You who left all to follow Christ, help me to value eternal things above temporal ones. Amen.
