Day 4 — Strength to carry the cross
Meditation
"If anyone would come after me, let him take up his cross and follow me" (Matthew 16:24). Saint Expeditus bore the cross of martyrdom bravely, not bargaining his faith before the judge who condemned him. Accepting suffering with patience is not sterile resignation but a union with the redeeming Passion of Christ, who turns pain into a path of salvation.
Prayer of the Day
O glorious martyr Saint Expeditus, who knew well the teaching of the Divine Master to take up the cross and follow him, ask of him the graces I need to combat my passions. You who faced martyrdom with courage, help me to accept the difficulties of life with patience. Amen.
(Here make the particular petition.)
Final Prayer (for all days)
O Jesus Christ, protect us today and always, but especially today. O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you. Saint Expeditus, glorious martyr and patron of just and urgent causes, pray for us.
(Three Our Fathers, three Hail Marys, and three Glorias, in honor of the Most Holy Trinity.)
