Day 5 — Comfort of the sick

Reading

Saint Cajetan spent long hours helping the sick and wore himself out working to assist the victims of the plagues frequent in his time. He cared for the sick not only to heal them but to guide them to a happy death. He wanted their souls, not their bodies. He reminds us that the most terrible illness is our sinfulness.

Prayer of the Day

Saint Cajetan, comfort of the sick, accompany those who suffer in body and soul. Teach us to prepare for our encounter with the Lord with repentant hearts. Amen.

O glorious Saint Cajetan, you who were a model of virtue among priests and who, trusting in divine Providence, gave the bread of your table to the needy, carry our petitions to Jesus. Obtain for us from the Lord the grace to use temporal goods in such a way that we may not lose the eternal goods of glory. Through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
