Day 5 — Refuge in life and in death

Meditation

Fourth promise: "I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all at the hour of death." The Sacred Heart offers himself as a harbor in the crossing and a shield at the final hour. Those who during life have trusted in his Heart may hope for his intercession at the decisive moment, when we can no longer help ourselves and only the love of Christ upholds us.

Prayer of the Day

Heart of Jesus, sure refuge of the soul, be my shield through all the days of my life, and above all at the hour of my death. Beside you I fear nothing; in your Heart I find a harbor when all is turmoil. Accept my surrender now, that you may sustain me then. Amen.

Offering to the Sacred Heart of Jesus (for all days)

O most loving Heart of Jesus! I offer you my prayers, my works, and my sufferings, those of this day and all the days of my life, to do all that pleases you, to repair the offenses committed against you, and to beg for the conversion of sinners. Join them to the infinite merits of your Passion, that they may reach the heavenly Father and lift up supplications for the whole world. Heart of Jesus, I trust in you.
