Day 9 — Come, Holy Spirit, Fill the Hearts
Antiphon
Come, Holy Spirit, in your seven gifts, descend upon those who ever confess and adore you! Grant them relief in death, life with you on high, and joys that have no end. Amen.
Meditation: The outpouring of the Holy Spirit
Only one thing is important: eternal salvation. Therefore only one thing is to be feared: sin. Sin is the result of ignorance, weakness, and indifference. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Light, of Strength, and of Love. With his seven gifts he illumines the mind, strengthens the will, and inflames the heart with the love of God. To secure our salvation we must invoke the Divine Spirit daily, because "the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us" (Rom 8:26).
Prayer for the Seven Gifts
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love. O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that, guided by that same Spirit, we may relish what is right and ever rejoice in his consolation.
Come, Holy Spirit, by the gift of Wisdom, teach us to prize the goods of heaven and show us the way to attain them. / Come, Holy Spirit, by the gift of Understanding, illumine our minds concerning the mysteries of salvation. / Come, Holy Spirit, by the gift of Counsel, incline our hearts to act with rectitude and justice. / Come, Holy Spirit, by the gift of Fortitude, strengthen us with your grace against the enemies of our soul. / Come, Holy Spirit, by the gift of Knowledge, teach us to live among earthly things so as not to lose eternal ones. / Come, Holy Spirit, by the gift of Piety, inspire us to live soberly, justly, and piously in this life, that we may gain heaven in the next. / Come, Holy Spirit, by the gift of Fear of the Lord, wound our bodies with holy awe, that we may labor for the salvation of our souls.
We ask you, Lord, that, according to the promise of your Son, the Holy Spirit may lead us to the full knowledge of all revealed truth. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Act of Consecration to the Holy Spirit (for all days)
Receive, O Holy Spirit, the absolute consecration of all my being, which I make to You this day, that You may henceforth be, in every instant of my life, in each of my actions, my Director, my Light, my Guide, my Strength, and all the love of my Heart.
I abandon myself without reserve to your divine operations, and I desire ever to be docile to your holy inspirations.
O Holy Spirit! Deign to form me with Mary and in Mary, after the model of your beloved Jesus.
Glory to the Father Creator. Glory to the Son Redeemer. Glory to the Holy Spirit the Sanctifier. Amen.
(Our Father, Hail Mary, and Gloria).
