Day 4 — The Gift of Fortitude
Antiphon
You, in toil sweet relief, pleasant coolness in the heat, solace in the midst of woe.
Meditation on the Gift of Fortitude
Through the gift of Fortitude the soul is strengthened against natural fear and endures to the end the performance of duty. Fortitude imparts to the will an impulse and energy that moves it to undertake without hesitation the most arduous tasks, to face dangers, to rise above human respect, and to bear without complaint the slow martyrdom of tribulation even throughout a whole life. "He who perseveres to the end shall be saved" (Mt 24:13).
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come, O Spirit of Fortitude, lift my soul in time of trouble and adversity, sustain my efforts after holiness, strengthen my weakness, give me courage against all the assaults of my enemies, that I may never be confounded and separated from You, O my God and my highest Good. Amen.
Act of Consecration to the Holy Spirit (for all days)
Receive, O Holy Spirit, the absolute consecration of all my being, which I make to You this day, that You may henceforth be, in every instant of my life, in each of my actions, my Director, my Light, my Guide, my Strength, and all the love of my Heart.
I abandon myself without reserve to your divine operations, and I desire ever to be docile to your holy inspirations.
O Holy Spirit! Deign to form me with Mary and in Mary, after the model of your beloved Jesus.
Glory to the Father Creator. Glory to the Son Redeemer. Glory to the Holy Spirit the Sanctifier. Amen.
(Our Father, Hail Mary, and Gloria).
