On December 9, 1531, the Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego on the hill of Tepeyac. With maternal sweetness she said to him: "Know and be assured, you, the least of my children, that I am the ever Virgin Holy Mary, Mother of the true God for whom one lives."

Dear Virgin of Guadalupe, our Mother, you who appeared at Tepeyac to show us your love, hear my prayer and grant me the grace I ask of you with faith and trust. Amen.

O Immaculate Virgin of Guadalupe, Mother of the true God and our Mother, you who showed your clemency and compassion to all who come to you, hear the supplications we offer you in this novena. As you imprinted your image on the tilma of Juan Diego, imprint your love on our hearts. Cover us with your maternal mantle and lead us always to your Son Jesus. Amen.
